The numbers say it all- The Japan-based company Eamex is claiming to have developed a lithium ion battery that could very well be a new standard for automobile batteries of any kind. The initial reports on them, coming from Eamex, is that they can be charged and discharged over 10,000 times, while lasting up to 20 years overall. Impressive.
The method behind the madness? Apparently Eamex has come upon a new way to manufacture their lithium ion batteries that allows them to significantly increase the lifespan of the high-capacity li-ions. Read More…
Wal-Mart, the world’s largest public corporation by revenue, has recently named Johnson Controls as its sole source provider of its Automotive, Marine, Powersport and Lawn and Garden battery requirements for its stores in the United States and Puerto Rico. Just hours before Steve Jobs pulled the metaphorical curtain up on Apple’s highly-anticipated iPad at an event in San Francisco last week, Microsoft founder Bill Gates was filmed shaking it in a serious way at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT.

Never before has so much been invested into the research and development of battery technology, and the amount of time and money being put forth toward the advancement of said technology just received yet another significant increase.
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory has just been awarded another $8.8 million from the President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to go toward the construction of three battery research and development facilities: a Battery Prototype Cell Fabrication Facility, a Materials Production Scale-Up Facility and a Post-Test Analysis Facility. The laboratory’s research will focus on battery materials and batteries for hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and all other electric vehicles. Read More…

Better Place, the California-based company proposing to set up a network of battery swap stations for electric vehicles, recently announced that it has raised $350 million in investor financing to help advance its plans.
