hpFollowing at least two reported cases of batteries catching on fire, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 70,000 lithium-ion batteries used in Hewlett-Packard and Compaq laptops. As noted by our friends at Tech Report, this particular recall is nowhere near the size of the massive battery recall that hit Apple, Dell, and Lenovo among others in 2006; this latest recall of HP laptop batteries is undoubtedly a frustrating event for a laptop manufacturer that heavily touts the quality of battery that comes with their machines.

“The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.Name of Product: Lithium-Ion batteries used in Hewlett-Packard and Compaq notebook computers.

Hazard: The recalled lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.”

The recall affects the following notebook models, which were all sold between August 2007 and March 2008:

-HP Pavilion: dv2000, dv2500, dv2700, dv6000, dv6500, dv6700, dv9000, dv9500, and dv9700.
-Compaq Presario: A900, C700, F700, V3000, V3500, V3700, V6000, V6500, and V6700.
-HP: G6000 and G7000.
-HP Compaq: 6720s.

I have the same issue with my F700 Presario. The battery gets hot and my laptop shuts off.

Yep, I have the same problem.

I sometimes just face a fan towards the underside while my laptop is sitting on a rack to keep it cooled.

I wonder why these batteries haven’t been recalled.

I have a Presario C500. The battery got so hot it melted the tip to the charger. I called and reported it and they told me that my laptop was not on the recall list so it was not their problem.

CQ61-410 US Notebook and the battery gets so hot it shuts computer down and it only last for 30 mins on a full charger. Is there a recall on this model yet?
