Turning Batteries Into Trees
Instead of letting old batteries collect dust in the garage or end up wasting away in a landfill where they will likely do harm to our environment, why not turn that battery into something everyone can enjoy…..like a tree!
Between October 3 and 10, CAA Niagara of Ontario, Canada is collecting used car batteries from homes and businesses, with proceeds from recycling being used to help reforest the Niagara Region. For every battery collected, CAA Niagara, in partnership with Trees Ontario, will plant a tree in the name of the person turning in the old battery.
“Participation in this recycling and tree-planting campaign helps contribute to safer, more environmentally friendly communities and a healthier future for Niagara forests,” said Pat Nielsen, president and CEO of CAA Niagara.
Obviously this will be difficult if you’re not a resident of the Niagara region. However, the concept is a noble one that hopefully many people take note of. These types of efforts to encourage battery recycling and better our environment will prove to be beneficial for all of us. Besides, who doesn’t love trees?
